“The Beehive”

Backlog Trip Reports

November 22, 2022

If you haven’t had a chance to watch the “Limitless” series on Disney+ starring Chris Hemsworth, I highly recommend taking a look. The series is a beautiful production by National Geographic and explores different ways we can live better and possibly longer. I watched episode 5 on memory today, and it shouldn’t have come as a surprise; the memory expert challenge is a two-day trek with Chris and his friend finding their way to a specific location. Walking through nature, using our brains to figure out the best route, it turns out, is extremely valuable in keeping our minds alert and active. As if I needed any more excuses to get out and hike. The following backlog trip report can be found at the link below.

Backlog Trip Reports

Brian Head Ski Resort opened full-time today, and although I didn’t go (I haven’t picked up my season pass), my lovely wife Linda was up early and excited for the day. Linda is a level 2 ski instructor and bounces between the two local mountains teaching skiing and having a ball. She was going to find the best time for me to get my pass. As it turned out, she could get everything set up and came home with my pass in hand, ready for use at any time going forward. Unfortunately, I spent the entire morning working on the computer. Below is a link to a previously unpublished Trip Report from my early essay-writing days.

Noah’s Ark Trail #32005

Backlog Trip Reports

November 8, 2022

It's the transitional season here in Southern Utah as fall is turning rapidly into winter. Brian Head ski resort opened (two runs, one lift) on November 4th to set a new record as the earliest resort opening ever in Utah. Fortunately (for us skiers), another storm is moving in today with a 25 mph wind and two feet of expected snow. So I'll stay indoors today. Attached is one of my first Trip Reports (unpublished), short and sweet.

Backlog Trip Reports

August 5, 2022

I tried to go hiking this morning only to get rained out, making all the dirt roads I tried to go down muddy and near impassable. So I decided to turn around before another breaking storm made them impossible to drive on.

Disappointed, I drowned (no pun intended) my sorrow with Marv's burger and fries in Enterprise.

P.S. I highly recommend Marv's in good weather or bad.

P.S.S Here is another unpublished beautiful winter hike to unnamed peak 5860 from 2013.

Backlog Trip Reports

July 29, 2022

A longtime friend called yesterday asking if he could spend the night while passing through on his way home to Oklahoma. I was excited at the prospect of seeing him again that, of course, I said yes. After breakfast, he headed on his way, and I ran to a previously scheduled doctor’s appointment. It is monsoon season here in Southern Utah, and it was hot and muggy when I exited the doctor’s office. I promise I hike most Fridays, but for now, I’ll have to settle with another Backlog trip report.

Backlog Trip Reports

July 26, 2022

Note: In my effort to keep trip reports on the dates of their occurrence, I've included the link to the Mount Majestic and Hook Canyon Trip Report, which I wrote in 2014 but never published. I've just returned from a two-week vacation, and between work and home duties that need catching up, I decided to backlog today's post with the Mount Majestic and Hook Canyon adventure.

Linda and I are going to Minnesota to meet our newest grandchild. For the next few Tuesday and Friday posts dedicated to hiking, peak bagging, and ATV riding, I will be posting unpublished trip reports that I had written but never got around to putting on the website. To maintain dates and travels, I have published the complete Trip Report on the date it occurred.
