Here is a list of what I read this week. All articles from the Wall Street Journal will require a subscription (sorry); most blog posts are from writers that have piqued my interest for one reason or another.
Books
I, Asimov: A Memoir by Isaac Asimov. Reading. 52% complete.
Lost in Time. by A.G. Riddle. Reading. 36% complete.
Infinite. by Brian Freeman. Reading. 54% complete.
Younger Next Year. by Chris Crowley and Henry S. Lodge. Reading. 51% complete. Because I set the dangerous precedence a couple of weeks ago with a summary of Isaac Asimov’s book “I, Asimov: A Memoir,” I now feel compelled to write more “half way through” thoughts about the book “Younger Next Year.” The book was not recommended to me; however, a friend and coworker in casual conversation mentioned the book when I last saw him at a fall regional meeting for our company.
The book is an easy read written by an old guy (I get to the reason for that comment in a minute) and his doctor. Younger Next Year is a guy-to-guy book, or more specifically, an old guy-to-old-guy book. During the introductory chapters, the author Chris Crowley tells of meeting co-author Henry Lodge, who provided health and exercise recommendations for Mr. Crowley as he retired. Upon following Dr. Lodge's advice, Mr. Crowley felt that other old guys could benefit from the regiment, and a book deal was struck.
The information isn’t new; however, the length and intensity are more significant than that recommended by “government agencies.” Exercise six days per week, two of which are weight lifting for strength—four days per week cardio of sufficient duration and heart rate elevation that you break a sweat. The second half appears to be building for the nutritional component of being younger by this time next year. Whoot Whoot. (see also the blog Five AM written October 24, 2022)
